Amazon approached us with a unique challenge: fostering a sense of community among Amazon Prime delivery drivers employed by third-party vendors, known as DSPs. Amazon envisioned a podcast series that would share inspiring stories from the field to connect drivers across their vendor network.
The role of a delivery driver is demanding, with constant pressure to complete deliveries safely and punctually, often with minimal training or experience. Given the industry's high turnover rate—averaging just a few months per driver—delivering uplifting messages and additional training to this group was deemed crucial for their success. To bring this vision to life, Amazon assembled a skilled team of producers, writers, and an experienced host for their podcast, named "The Dispatch by Amazon." Storyboard was enlisted to implement the underlying technology, while the design and layout were a collaborative effort between our team and Amazon's design specialists.
The Dispatch podcast application debuted on the App Store and Play Store in early 2022 during Amazon's annual conference for DSP owners, receiving widespread praise. Although the initiative faced budget constraints later that year, it left a significant impression on Amazon's approach to communicating with drivers, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in fostering a supportive and connected community.
